Bequests Beget Breakthroughs

October 22, 2013 | Emily Livingstone

If you’re like most of our loyal supporters, you make a donation to the Cancer Research Institute every year. You give in honor of friends and loved ones. You wish you could do more.

Have you considered making a planned gift to the Cancer Research Institute?

The incredible impact of bequests—both large and small—provided the foundation for the cutting-edge research the Cancer Research Institute is producing today. Many of our friends and supporters have already realized that making a bequest is the easiest way to ensure that the Cancer Research Institute can continue its lifesaving work for many years into the future. By adding us to your will or other estate plan, you can name the Cancer Research Institute as the beneficiary of a portion of your estate, or of particular assets in your estate. Many of the most powerful gifts have been planned gifts; CRI’s first bequest, in 1986, was used to support new research that initiated the exploration of fundamental immune responses to melanoma, a topic at the cutting-edge of cancer immunology. Today, over 20 years later, our scientists have developed powerful immunotherapies that are stimulating effective responses to melanoma, providing new hope for those fighting for survival.

In addition to the incredible research you will be supporting, there are many reasons to make a bequest. You can honor a friend or memorialize a loved one, all while providing critical support to the Cancer Research Institute through one of our many specific funds. It costs nothing now, but will ensure that your legacy will go on to support generations of future scientists and the patients who benefit from their discoveries.

Once you have taken this step, please don’t hesitate to let us know so we can properly welcome you to our Helen Coley Nauts Society, our planned giving membership society. You are an important part of our future and we want to thank you for your incredible support.

You can learn more about making a bequest or any other planned gift to CRI or contact a member of our development team at advancement@cancerresearch.org or call toll-free at 1-800-99-CANCER.
