Four Virtual Fundraising Ideas for Cancer Immunotherapy Month

June—Cancer Immunotherapy Month™—is almost upon us and the perfect time to raise money for cancer immunotherapy research. Let’s celebrate the lifesaving potential of immunotherapy and unite for a common goal: a future immune to cancer. You can make a difference while wearing white, whether in a lab coat, white coat, scrubs, or a plain white t-shirt. Remember: We all have white blood cells poised to fight cancer.

Here are some ideas on how you can host your own themed event and fundraise to fuel the next scientific discoveries and breakthrough treatments in cancer immunotherapy.

Virtual Party

Keep the white dress code and décor. Just grab a webcam! Turn your living room into a gala venue and host via video call. (Tip: We have some background available for download.) Ask your guests to get involved with the theme in creative ways. Try some immunotherapy trivia among other games at your Virtual Party. Create a fundraising page and ask guests to donate the money they would have spent on travel, a new outfit, a bottle of wine, a gift, or whatever is appropriate. A video conference image of family and friends all wearing white reminds us that we’re all in this together.

Virtual Bake Off

Meringues, angel food cake, blondies, bread, and the list goes on. Channel everyone’s stress-baking into fundraising challenge: a Virtual Bake Off. Create a fundraising page and challenge friends to make a set recipe or offer a selection of themed treats. Offer tiered donation levels for each baker according to challenge, for your tasters who wish to receive the goods, and for those who cheer from the sidelines (sidescreens?). Everyone can support a future immune to cancer. Consider sending each guest a white apron for a festive atmosphere on screen. In addition to the sweet baked rewards, you’ll have the sweet connection of a shared experience—and a sweet result of supporting cancer immunotherapy research.

Virtual Workout

We miss our gym buddies too, but you can still get a great workout at home. Organize a Virtual Workout with friends and family. Choose a type of workout, date, and time, and make sure that all participants grab a white tee for the session. Create a fundraising page and sell tickets to a Zoom home fitness class complete with personal trainer (ask around). Or extend the workout to everyone and start a livestream, asking for donations to support cancer research and promoting your fundraising page throughout. Feel the burn and feel the love.

Virtual Happy Hour

Coconut mojito, white sangria, or Piña colada? Virtual happy hours have become the new social hour to see our friends, coworkers, and family. Grab a white t-shirt, dress, or button down depending on your style and choose a drink to match your outfit. Create a Virtual Happy Hour and collect donations via a chosen drink recipe. Consider hiring a local mixologist to teach an entirely new drink to you and your friends. If you’d rather keep the socializing non-alcoholic, try a virtual coffee break with themed brews, such as blonde roasts or white mocha macchiatos, and ask people to donate the price of their usual caffeine treat. Don’t forget those gift cards for your local bars or coffee shops for additional fundraising.

Start a Virtual Fundraiser

We hope you’re suitably inspired to raise money for cancer immunotherapy research this June. With your support of the one cause to cure all cancers, we can create a future immune to cancer. And don’t forget to post your selfie for our global awareness day on June 12, 2020.
